FOCUS AREAS Education Health Entrepreneurship

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?

The Sustainable School Kitchen project was created to address the child malnutrition crisis affecting communities in Lara State.

  • The rural areas of Lara State are undergoing a severe economic crisis due to the collapse of the agricultural industry and the permanent closure of food factories, which were once the primary sources of employment in the region.
  • More than 40% of families subsist on $100 a month or less, and 89% of households face food insecurity.
  • Between 15% and 30% of the students suffer from nutritional deficiencies.
  • 1 in 4 beneficiaries of the project only eats one meal a day: the one provided at the School Kitchen
  • The project is carried out at a long-standing Catholic school operated by a religious congregation that has provided quality education and community support to underserved populations for over 70 years.
